Tried this with friends for brunch, none of us having been before, and it was wonderful! Lovely old building, beautifully decorated, and great atmosphere. The staff were lovely and made us feel welcomed straight away, always attentive and friendly. Range of brunch options, including veggies, and the food and coffee were great. Super reasonably priced for really good quality. Thank you so much, we'll be back again!

I was in town for a few weeks and visited this restaurant. I was so impressed I had to visit again before leaving. Not only that, but I visited several other restaurants in Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside, which were in similar or higher price brackets, but none of them were quite as well-rounded as The Forge. The decor is rustic and low-key, but well finished. There is no pretentiousness, which makes for a warm, enjoyable atmosphere. The front of house staff are all friendly and attentive, even when being rushed off their feet serving a full house inside and out. The food is excellent. From the perfectly cooked scotch egg starter to the fish, lamb, or steak mains, down to the absolutely delicious desserts. The standout was the Cornish hake dish. We even took a 3 and 5-year-old on the first visit, and they produced some simple off-menu children's dishes which the kids both loved. Despite visiting only a few weeks apart, there were quite a few changes to the menu, which keeps it seasonal and exciting. I have paid more in other places in the North East for worse service, atmosphere, and cookery. The Forge is an absolute gem and despite being well above the average price for a restaurant in Washington, you absolutely get what you pay for, and it is worth every penny.

What can we say! We are so lucky to have this amazing eatery on our doorstep. We are regulars most recently hosting a deployment farewell gathering for our son. The staff couldn't do enough and the food and drinks were as fabulous as ever. Sunday lunch, brunch, small plates or evening meals every time we've eaten we have left impressed with every. Highly recommend.

What a lovely evening we had here. The staff were all really nice and the food was stunning.

We just stopped in after a visit to nearby Washington Hall - and what a good choice it was! The food was excellent, the service friendly and helpful, the situation and venue is charming and well laid out. We had a lovely time!

Went for lunch after hearing good things about this place. A great atmosphere with a lovely log burner roaring at one end. The staff were excellent and found us a table straight away. I ordered a pint of Stella which was delicious. For food I opted for The Full Forge which is a full English but posher. It was excellent with everything cooked to perfection. The poached eggs were awesome. Very reasonable prices for high quality food. Will definitely be going back soon.

Premium food served here, service is good and decent selection of drinks Definitely going back

Loved our visit last weekend. The food was amazing, we had the scotch egg and crab arancini starters. My crab was beautiful and o even tried his scotch egg which I have to say I’ve never tasted anything like it! Amazing. Roast was so big we got take away boxes which the server was happy to sort. There were 3 servers who all paid close attention to the room but not in your face at all. The table next to us also asked for recommendations and the female server was extremely knowledgeable with advice and tastes - wish I had the space to do 3 courses. Will definitely be returning to try more of the menu. X
